1 year and 10 months ago must be a busy month for baby making! With so many 1 yr olds in the studio lately, the cakes have been smashing and the icing has been flying. This past month, I kicked off with a baby that I was able to document when we was 6 months. Cooper, now turning 1 came into the studio and we had a blast. Next baby Jack, then Reid and Olivia. Along with the parents of all these beautiful babies, we laughed in excitement and fun as each baby tested the cake in their own way. Some being more hesitant then others about getting “dirty”. I find it astonishing that each baby acts so differently when there is a cake in front of them. Some we have to literally put the icing in their mouth so they know they can eat it and then there are others that will just dive right in and those…you just have to love!
Documenting your child at 1 yr. old is a momentousness occasion. Not only are they turning 1, but you survived a year with your baby! And of course it went so fast, most of the time can you even believe it is a year already!? At the studio, I make the 1 year photo-shoot super easy for my clients. First off, I choose to photograph 1 year olds at the studio for a few reasons. Babies have a short time frame in which they are willing to cooperate. So, having a planned out shoot where we move through seamlessly is important vs. chasing them around outside and forcing them to try and look at the camera or continue to take photos because we are trying to fill an hour or whatever. At the studio, we start with an outfit that is supplied by the client, then move into one of the vintage rompers or any of the other wardrobe that I have for my clients to use and then last, we change into our cake smash outfit which is usually just bottoms of some sort and let them have fun while they smash and eat. This also brings back joy to the baby which at that point may be starting to get tired or hungry.
Did you know that I also supply the smash cake! This way, you do not have to worry about having one made or picking up a really ugly one from the grocery store. Again, alleviating any stress to my clients as having a 1 yr old can be stressful enough. My smash cakes are handmade by a local baker. They are 4 in by 6in and I allow each client to make a few custom selections to the cake. There are also two options to upgrade if my client wants a little more color or a more substantial cake.
All in all, the 1 year old pictures at the studio have been awesome! I look forward to all my little DROOL Smashers coming up and if you have questions or want to book a 1 year photo-shoot, email me here: email@example.com
